Edison Ford Estates Fort Myers Florida
The Edison Ford Estates at Fort Myers Florida were a real surprise. The twin homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford were magnificent and the museum an eye opener. Thomas Edison was certainly more than the light bulb. Accessibility was excellent throughout. From the main car park the winter estate homes are across the road. Throughout the estate access is on well paved level pathways. The verandas of both homes are accessed via ramps. The homes are protected by Perspex barriers designed to be looked over by a person standing. Wheelchair visitors have to look into the homes through the Perspex barriers reducing the experience. The museum, back at the main complex is fully accessible throughout. The displays are all visible and readable. The old rubber laboratory is accessible but rather tight to manoeuvre through. Accessible parking is available as are accessible toilet facilities at the main visitor centre.
